Uses
AFT-Metoprolol CR (Metoprolol Succinate) is used on a long term basis for the maintenance of angina pectoris, so as to help stop angina attacks and increase the level of exercise tolerance. It is also used as an antihypertensive agent for the treatment of high blood pressure and to treat heart failure. The active component in this medicine is a beta blocker. It functions by inhibiting adrenaline and noradrenaline action, two hormones which can act on the blood vessels and heart. This results in better flow of blood, a reduction of blood pressure and a slowed down heart rate. Studies have also been conducted to test its effects if used for hyperthyroidism and migraine.
