Uses
Flixotide (Fluticasone Propionate) is an inhaler which delivers a type of corticosteroid medication to the lungs. This helps to reduce inflammation in the air passageways of the patient's lungs, thereby helping to manage asthma and prevent wheezing, coughing and other asthma symptoms. In some cases, doctors may also prescribe it to treat emphysema, bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Dosage and Administration
Flixotide (Fluticasone Propionate) comes as an aerosol inhaler, which you inhale orally. The inhaler contains 120 metered doses. Before you begin using it, you must visit your doctor for a medical check-up. He or she will determine the correct dosage, and you must strictly adhere to the instructions given to you. Adult patients are sometimes told to administer it twice per day. Try to use it at the same time each day. In some cases, your doctor may adjust your dosage depending on your response to treatment. Some patients may notice an improvement in their condition 24 hours after beginning treatment, however it can take up to 2 weeks before the full benefits are noticed.
To use it, you should first remove the inhaler from the packaging, and remove the cap from its mouthpiece. Shake the inhaler for at least 5 seconds. You may need to prime the inhaler before using it. Breathe out trough your mouth, and then insert the mouthpiece into your mouth. Take a deep breath through your mouth, and at the same time, press on the top of the canister using your index finger. The inhaler may then be removed from your mouth. After administration, you should hold your breath for at least 10 seconds. Patients who have been told to administer another puff by their doctor should wait at least 30 seconds before administering the next dose.
